Preserved by God

Oh, love the LORD, all you His saints!
For the LORD preserves the faithful,
And fully repays the proud person.
Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD.   Psalm 31:23-24Did you know that you are considered a saint if you have come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour?
Amazing but true. You are a saint. Of course, by the world's standards, this is crazy. Especially, when they see us mess up. That's ok though as we shouldn't go about bragging to everyone that we are saints. This is God's description and title given to us by Him and Him only. It is not a title we give ourselves.
So the Lord tells His saints to "love" Him. (Not by force, but from the heart, truly because we want to.) When we do this, we express our faith and trust in Him. Then, He says He "preserves the faithful".
Preserving us in this sense means He will guard us, watch over us, and keep us. Yes, this is the outcome of faith in God our Father…

The Worst of the Worst. Will God Forgive Them?

"Now when he was in affliction, he implored the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed to Him; and He received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God" -2 Chronicles 33:12-13 Manasseh was a man who once committed evil in the sight of the Lord, and he did it deliberately to provoke God to anger.
He was an old testament king who reigned over Judah for fifty-five years.  This man created wooden images, was into witch craft and sorcery and even killed his own children by burning them up at an altar he had built where his people did this as a norm. This man also caused his people to walk in his ways so you can imagine what it must have been to live in his kingdom.
To call this man evil, is an understatement. This man was the epitome of the worst of the worst, but guess what? God still called on him (and the people he was leading) to repent, to turn …

Are You Doubting God?

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:1 NKJVPaul wrote this message to the Roman believers and it also applies to the current believers of this day.

The passage is very powerful because it holds a great truth concerning the Christian who has been born again – there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.

If you have turned your life over to Jesus, truly from the heart (not just by mere words), then you are born again and heaven bound. Yes, you are forgiven and saved.

Therefore, the believer must take scripture to heart and apply it to his or her life. Why do I say this? Because some who have been born again still think they have not been forgiven; they are not sure whether they are truly saved or not.

The Bible says that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” 2 …

Believer, Have You Strayed Away?

Image
For the Christian, sin can be very debilitating if not dealt with, yet a major blessing when it is dealt with and forgiven. “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.” Yes, the connection between the believer and the LORD is re-established, once again. (Not that He ever left His child, but instead the child left (strayed or wandered away) Him, the Father.)King David had strayed so far from the Lord (and tried to keep it a secret from Him) that he said “When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer.”

Have you ever strayed so far from the Lord that you felt weak, dry and thrashed within? Yes, sin is debilitating and even as believers in Christ, we can succumb to foolishness. Sometimes we succumb knowingly sometimes unknowingly, but either way our Father in Heaven already knew because He is totally aware that we are not perfect.

The Lord is our Fortress

“In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness”King David uttered these words to the Lord. He had full trust in the Lord. He knew that the Lord would never allow him to be ashamed, and that He would deliver him from all adversities into His righteousness.

The action word trust means to seek refuge and flee for protection. God our Father is the believer’s refuge and protection. With confidence we can also say, as David said, “In You, O LORD, I put my trust”.

It is hard, at times, to utter the above words, but we must fight the natural desire to trust in ourselves, and fully place our trust in Him.

As you fight the flesh (with the Lord’s power), do not succumb to your feelings of fear, anger or whatever if at first you don’t feel peace as His peace may take some time to reach you.

Simply keep calling on Him with a true heart and know that He is with you and desires only the best for you, His son or daughter; He willdeliver you from whatever it is …

Colossians 3:8 Anger, Wrath, Malice, Blasphemy & Filthy Language

But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Colossians 3:8Whoa! what is this? Didn’t Paul already say to us to put to death those things that pertain to the world like fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire and covetousness? Why is he adding more things to the list?
Well we know that the Bible is written by men who were divinely inspired by God. Paul was one of these men, and so he is relaying the message to us from God our Father.

Many words written in scripture are repeated more than once so when this happens we need to pay extra attention.

A college class that I was enrolled in had a professor who said “if you hear me say something more than once, you better make sure to make note of it because its likely to be on the test”.

The same applies when you read the same statement more than once in the Bible. We need to make note of it, and keep it in mind so that when times of testing arrive, we know what to do.

Colossians 3:6-7 Son's of Disobedience

Image
Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. Colossians 3:6-7Today we will be looking at verses six and seven. These two verses provide information on the “wrath of God”, the “sons of disobedience” and a little something about the Christian.

Verse six and seven are connected to verse five. Or, better yet, we can say verse six is in conjunction with verse five and feeds through to verse seven. This is because of the word because. Because is the connector.

The word because can also be read as ‘by reason of this’. It tells us that by reason of the things we read in verse five, fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry, the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience.

“Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience” (v6)

Colossians 3:5 Death to… Part 2

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:5Greetings everyone,

So now we continue with the rest of the verse. We’ve already defined and provided examples of the words fornication and uncleanness. If you’d like to check these out go to Death to… part 1.

Here’s a quick summary of what we’ve read so far in Colossians 3:1-4: The apostle Paul is reminding us that since we are now of Jesus, we are supposed to be setting our hearts and minds on all things good or as Paul said “the things above” where Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father. With this is in mind, let’s continue.

So the rest of the things God calls us to get away/stay away from are:

Passion and evil desire

These are described by John MacArthur as “Similar terms that refer to sexual lust. “Passion” is the physical side of that vice, and “evil desire” is the mental side”.

Passion in Greek could either be good or bad a…

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:5Attention all Christians! Yes, this is addressed to us…

Quick re-cap of verses one through four: Paul is speaking to the believer and is announcing that if we are in-Christ than we are to be setting our full heart and mind on Jesus and not on things of the earth. We’ve died to the things of the earth and now are alive in the things of Christ.

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth

Paul again mentions the word death in regards to our physical body and conscious efforts toward sin. He’s talking about putting the evil desires that creep up on us and sometimes take over us when we entertain thoughts that are not of Christ, to death. Does this mean that we kill our body? No, certainly not. That would be pretty crazy. It means that we slay or deprive of power, the evil desires that come our way.

Of course, we don’t do …

Colossians 3:4 Christ’s Return. Let’s Get Movin’

When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory Colossians 3:4WOW! What an awesome promise.

This is being told to all who have fully placed their trust in Jesus; To those who have been born again; To those whose names have been written in the Lamb’s book of Life. WOW!

First I wondered what the Lord would have me write, and as I pondered the passage, I became very excited. I can’t describe the feeling, but my insides were filled with excitement over the truth that Christ is our life and even after death we will be appearing with Him at His second coming.

I’ve read the passage before, but this time it was different. Thank you Lord!

When Christ who is our life appears

As Christians, it is very important to know that Jesus is our life. We are no longer of this earth, but of Christ. As verse three states, we have died and our life is now hidden in Christ. Brothers and sisters, take this to heart. Breathe, live and clothe yourselves with Jesus daily so that you c…

Colossians 3:2-3 Keep Your Focus on Jesus

"Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God"In Colossians 3:1, we read that we are to be raised with Christ by seeking those things which are above. Above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.

Here in verse two we read…

“Set your mind on things above” Set means to put or bring your mind into a specified state which is to establish or focus your mind on Jesus. As a side note, I looked up the word “specified” and the meaning states to identify clearly and definitely. So our minds should be clearly focused on Jesus. Nothing in life should hinder this focus we are to have in Him.

So how do we set our minds on the things above? We pray (or converse with God). We read the Bible. And we apply it into our lives without compromise. We stay away from things that would make us lose our focus on Him e.g. drugs, bad habits, etc..

Colossians 3:1 Raised with Christ

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Colossians 3:1This verse helps Christians to know a few things about Jesus (the Son); God (the Father); where the Christian stands in relation to Jesus; and what the Christian ought to be focused on in his or her daily walk.

If then you were raised with Christ” We are Christians if we have been born again. If that is so, then we have been raised with Christ. We are no longer dead but alive because we have accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour of our life. We now understand the things of the Lord because the Holy Spirit lives in us.

Be Ready For Action!

If you are praying in accordance to God’s will, you better be ready for action. Especially if you are asking the Lord to bring someone to you whom you can share His Good News with.God’s Word says “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.”1

This morning I was moved to share a prayer on G+ that went like this: ‘Thank You Jesus for this brand new day. Thank You for giving us life and another day to encourage someone with Your good news. I ask that You please provide boldness to me and all my brothers and sisters in Christ to share Your message of salvation with as many as You would have us speak to today. In Jesus' name’...
After doing so, I got ready for the day, and left the house to run an errand. When I arrived to my destination, I got in line and waited patiently for my turn at the register.
