Are You Ready To Share or Defend The Good News?
Fellow brethren and sisters, are you always "ready [or prepared] to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear"?
Yes, upon giving our lives over to God, we are immediately called to action.
Of course, there is a time of studying and learning before we begin sharing the good news of Jesus. But, once we become familiar with God's good news to us, we must then become ready to share His good news with others for the purpose of winning them over to God unto salvation.
There are many examples in the Bible that point us to this. For example, 1 Peter 3:15, which is the passage shared above. It says to be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks.... Another passage says that we are ambassadors of Christ called to share His word with all . And many more. (Challenge: see if you can find more passages that tell us to share His good news and post them below.)
So how do we prepare for this? We prepare just like we prepare for anything else, but this time, we prepare not alone nor under guidance of our own understanding but with the understanding and guidance of the Holy Spirit .
In other words we pray or call out to God for guidance as we study His word. After we call on the Lord (and we should do this all of the time before we read His word), then we read, and read, and call on Him, and read and so on. (By the way, this we should do until we are called to be with God in Heaven.)
I know the steps here are pretty basic, but the more we get into His word, the more understanding we will have of Him. And, most important, our relationship with Him will become stronger and solid.
So in actuality, we are not only becoming familiarized with the word of God so that we can be ready to share with anyone who asks us for the hope that lies within us, but we are also building a strong, solid relationship with our Lord God.
In addition, learning His word, will also answer questions we may have and help us resolve things that may have been lingering in our minds and so on. After all, the Bible does say to "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
