Forgiveness After Having Gone Astray
Jerusalem had gone completely astray. Way far away did they venture from the Lord, and Jeremiah was very distraught and discouraged, but deep inside he had hope.
Even though he wept and pondered the outcome of Jerusalem, Jeremiah knew that God would ultimately bring them back to recovery.
All he had experienced with the Lord, he couldn't deny Him because he knew that "Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your [His] faithfulness -Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV.
Yes, Jerusalem brought this trouble unto themselves. They were the cause of it and boy did they pay. They strayed from the Lord and that is not good.
Believer, have you ever gone astray and placed yourself in a mess? If you haven't that's great, keep your eyes focused on Jesus that you never go astray.
I have gone astray in the past and its not fun at all. It's terrible actually. Connection was lost with the Lord and in His great mercy and grace He allowed me to make my own choices which led me to being miserable all of the time, during that time. (This misery is caused by the conviction of the Holy Spirit within you.)
There is good news though if you have gone your own way and want to come back, truly come back to Him.
What's the good news? you say. Its that He will forgive you if you repent (turn away from what you are doing) and ask for forgiveness with a true heart.
Although there may be consequences if you did something that will cause a long/short term affect on your life, He will forgive you because of His great mercies.
The Lord's compassion on you and me do not fail because God does not want you to be miserable but instead have joy within as His follower.
Know, just like Jeremiah the prophet knew deep down inside, that "Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your [His] faithfulness".
Memorize that passage and keep it within your heart and bring to mind every morning. Do not doubt Him. He is real and He keeps His promises.
Stay Strong! Pray! Stay in the Word!
