SB Active Shooter. Should We Fear Man?

"And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." -Matthew 10:28 NKJV

Today there was an "active shooting" about one mile away from where I work. At first, one siren went by. Then, another went by and another and so the sirens kept passing by for almost fifteen minutes.

The sirens were coming from ambulances, police cars, SWAT team personnel and who knows what else.

They were all going to the scene where the active shooter massacre took place. At the end fourteen people were dead and countless others were wounded.

It was pretty incredible to witness this event. As the day went by, the news put forth many reports regarding what had taken place. I was amazed at what had happened so close to home. I never thought it would happen so near.

This made me think about the people affected their families and others. When I thought of the possibility that it could have been one of my family members, my heart dropped a bit and I actually became worried for a few seconds. What would I do?

Great comfort comes to me when I read passages like Matthew 10:28. The creator of this universe, our Father in heaven, says do not fear those who can kill the body, but cannot kill the soul. He also says to rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

As more and more bad things continue to happen here in the United States and abroad, we must remember what the Lord says and take it to heart.

We need to fear the Lord and not man.

Man, at most, can kill the body as the Bible says, but he can't kill the soul. If we succumb to the fear of man, we'll become caged up in fear and will live miserably; That's where we mess up because the Lord does not want us to be caged up, but freed up and to be in His peace so we can share His good news to as many as would receive it.

"This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." -Joshua 1:9 NLTse

Stay strong and keep the families of those affected by this tragedy in prayer. May the Lord bring many to Him and may the enemy be thwarted.

God bless you!
