Christian. Make Yourself Available!

"Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him."
-Mark 1:12-13 NKJV

Satan and his minions are at work twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week seeking whom they can devour.

Our Lord Jesus had just been baptized by John the baptist then immediately after He was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit.

Upon entry into the wilderness, Matthew 4:1 says that He was tempted by the devil.

The devil did not waste any time. He went straight for the kill. Of course we know that he failed, but we read that he certainly tried hard to make Jesus succumb to him. (Read Matthew 4:1-11.)

This reminds me of the new Christian and the battle that ensues thereafter with the father of lies (John 8:44). I know through first hand experience as it happened to me soon after my conversion.

Satan's lies, deception and everything that goes against Jesus came at me all at once. Thankfully, the brother-in-Christ who gave me the flyer to the event that led to my salvation was available to me.

He showed me how to use my Bible, and he answered tons and tons of questions that I had regarding salvation and Jesus. He also took me to my first men's Bible study.

I am very thankful to our Heavenly Father for my dear brother. Who knows what would have happened to me if I would not have had this 'mentor'-in-Christ.

As Christians, especially those of us who are mature in faith, we need to be available to those brothers and sisters who are coming to Christ. We are also to be available to disciple and 'mentor'-in-Christ the younger believer, and the fellow Christian, regardless of age-in-Christ, who is struggling.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (ESV) says "Therefore encourage one another and build one another up...." The only way we can do this is by being pro-active and reaching out to our brethren and sisters.

If you are a new believer, reach out also. Without you knowing, you just may make a difference to the person you are seeking guidance from.

Unbeknownst to me, the brother whom I kept asking questions, as a new believer, later shared with me that he was actually backsliding. And, because of all of the questions and guidance he was providing me, it sparked a flame in him to get back on track with Jesus.

Christian, make yourself available to the work of the Lord today. Let's become 'active'-in-Christ and overcome the enemy!

Pray. Read. Study. Apply. NO COMPROMISE!
